Do you know Gabriela Gaona?
GECHS Campus Spotlight: Ms. Gaona is a Chemistry and Drivers Ed teacher at Garcia Early College. She is a graduate of Martin High School and earned a Bachelors in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics degree from Texas A&M International University. Ms. Gaona has been an educator for the past 5 years at Garcia Early College High-School. She works collaboratively as one of the UlL Coordinators and co-sponsors of the National Honor Society and 2024 Senior Class, displaying her relentless commitment and dedication on helping our students achieve their goals. Ms. Gaona says, “I’m so very thankful & blessed to be doing what I love every day. Three students from GECHS, namely Diego Dosal, Kaylie Elizondo, and Violette Garcia, recently delivered a presentation titled "Unlock your Full Potential: A Step-by-Step Guide from Ideas to Execution" at the 8th Annual Student by Student Technology & Leadership Conference (SbySTech) held in Edinburg, Texas. Their presentation was based on their Coding.Org App Project. Apart from this, the students also participated in a STEM CHALLENGE where they designed an Alarm Circuit. They also attended a College & Career Connection event where they interacted with different University Recruiters. The students enjoyed it & It was a great experience! #PhoenixPride #STEM

Do you know Mr. Jorge Mendoza?
GECHS Campus Spotlight: Mr. Mendoza is a Biology teacher at Garcia Early College. He is a graduate of J. W. Nixon High School and earned his Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has been an educator for the past 18 years and began his teaching career at L. J. Christen Middle School. While working for the district, he has had the opportunity to teach as adjunct faculty with Laredo College, Cantu Early College, and Texas A&M International University. What's the best part about being at Garcia ECHS? Mr. Mendoza feels blessed to serve his community with the best faculty, staff, and students in all of Texas. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Mendoza enjoys home improvement projects, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Fun Fact: His favorite sports team is the San Antonio Spurs.


Congratulations to Garcia Early College High School's Laney Bernardini for being named the LISD February Student of the Month.
Laney is a freshman at Garcia Early College High School. She is also an honor roll student who is dual enrolled at TAMIU.
She also actively contributes to her community through various service activities, such as Laredo Animal Protective Society, SCAN, and Santo Niño Elementary Fall Festival.
Laney’s contributions to the school community have been exceptional, and she was selected to be a part of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC).
One of Laney's most notable characteristics is her exceptional leadership skills. Her ability to work well with others is remarkable, and she does not hesitate to lend a helping hand. She supports the growth and development of her classmates, contributing significantly to a positive and collaborative learning environment, such as tutoring her classmates.
After high school, Laney hopes to attend Stanford University and get a master’s degree in Marine Biology or something in life science. She wants to have a career working with marine animals.
Laney also enjoys reading and watching TV. She is the daughter of Exie and Michael Bernardini.

Last week the LISD Superintendent's Student Advisory Council members visited elementary schools and read a book to a class. This month the advisory council read “Charlie the Ranch Dog” to Sanchez/Ochoa, Don Jose Gallego, Daiches, Zachry, Bruni, Dovalina Heights, and J.C. Martin’s second and third grade students/classes.

LISD ‘s Office of Communications hosted the 4th Annual LISD Scholars Golf Tournament on Saturday, February 10, at the Casa Blanc Golf Course. Close to 100 golfers enjoyed a fun-filled day of golf that included breakfast and lunch, door prizes, a cool goodie bag and a warm feeling from supporting LISD’s graduates on their way to college. Thanks to our sponsors and golfers LISD was able to raise money for scholarships for students from Martin High School, Nixon High School, Cigarroa High School, Garcia Early College High School, and Valdez High School.

Do you know Mr. Jose Ruiz?
Mr. Jose Ruiz, who is a proud graduate of Martin High School, has been employed with Laredo ISD for 14 years. Prior to joining Garcia Early College High School, he began his career at J. C. Martin Elementary and has also worked at LCC and Holy Family.
From 1984-1986, Mr. Ruiz attended LCC and is a few hours away from receiving his Associates in Accounting. He enjoys working at GECHS because he finds it enjoyable to be around people. When he's not working, he likes to spend time with his family.
